 ปกติแล้วเราไม่ค่อยได้รู้จักกับนครดูไบสักเท่าไร เพราะอยู่ไกลถึงตะวันออกกลาง  แต่ตอนหลังมีข่าวทางการเมืองว่า นายกรัฐมนตรีของไทยท่านหนึ่งที่ลี้ภัยการเมืองไปอยู่ที่นี่ ก็ทำให้เราได้ยินชื่อนครดูไบมากขึ้นๆ



Dubai จัดเป็นเมืองการค้าการลงทุนที่สำคัญแห่งหนึ่งของโลก เป็นรัฐหนึ่งของสหรัฐอาหรับเอมิเรสต์ ประเทศผู้ส่งออกน้ำมันสำคัญในตะวันออกกลาง  แต่ดูไบไม่ใช่รัฐที่มีน้ำมัน  จึงผันตัวเองมาสร้างเมืองแห่งเงินตรา การค้า การลงทุนของโลก ขึ้นมาทดแทนน้ำมัน  จนทำให้มีตึกระฟ้ารูปทรงแปลกๆ และสูงที่สุดในโลกอยู่ที่นครแห่งนี้
